Born and raised in Costa Rica, Ben “El Bachatico” began his dancing career in his home country nearly 8 years ago; shortly thereafter he moved to Hawaii, where he trained salsa with Greg Henry for over a year.

In 2008 he moved to New Mexico and began training and teaching salsa, bachata and Argentine tango at the prestigious Double Time Dance Studio. In early 2010 he discovered his passion for bachata and began developing his own, unique style of bachata and tango fusion with the help of several well known bachata and tango artists. It was this “Club-Style Bachatango” that first got him his teaching and performing debut at Chicago Latin Street Salsa Congress in Summer of 2010, and since then he has had the honor to be a part of numerous other festivals.

His classes have become some of the favorites among students of all levels, as he tends to systematically focus on the fundamentals of leading, following and musicality, applying tango principles within the framework of bachata, and opening the door to new and fun movements, simple through advanced, that are sure to challenge, educate and entertain every student at their appropriate level.
